Field of Flowers

Prepping the Plants

PART TWO

Next, we’re going to prepare the plants before they are pressed. If you can’t press them right away, put them in a ziplock bag and store it in a refrigerator. To maintain the color and freshness of the flora, we are going to:

  1. If using flowers, cut any stems at a 45˚ angle, and place immediately into water.
  2. Remove leaves that are lower than the waterline, as they will collect unwanted bacteria.
  3. Add into vase with water.
  4. Add plant food or a teaspoon of sugar.
  5. Keep in a cool ventilated place for a few hours.
  6. If using thicker flowers (such as a rose), cut in half, so it will fold flatly.
